The Home Affair
“Oh! Wasn’t that the same table lamp that you had bought about like 10 years back? Does it still work?” “Come on! I understand that you love it, but isn’t it just too old to be lying there now?” Have you been dreaming lately that an old friend of yours who is so absolutely chic and elegant, might just turn up at your place and you’d have to face comments such as these? Is it time now to look into refurbishing your house, its furniture, outdoors, lightings etc. Although planning the home revamp can overwhelm one, but nevertheless it’s a job once can’t really avoid.
When one thinks about home décor, there isn’t specific mantra that can be followed because every space would have its own air and feel. Every person in the house may have his own tastes and a house should always embody the ideas of freedom, creativity, zeal and liveliness.
Taking the same ideas forward 2014 seems to have more of funky floral and tribal colors making their way amidst the early monochromes when it comes to wall décor. Landscapes and waterfall wallpapers have been bought over as it is believed that being close to nature brings peace to soul. Pink, which so far was considered a girl’s tint, is now seen as the flush for all in the house. Linen curtains in pinks have paved way when it comes to living area as they seem to have a gratifying effect when looked at.
Rusts and antiques tend to take us back to our roots and hence rust iron and wood furniture is being preferred to help ensure the “touch-with-the-nature-thing-again”. With the focus of many people now shifting towards finding solace, these can prove to be a long lasting trend for years to come.
While you may want to have a classy kitchen, we all know that it can be a mess at times and having them displayed to the guests (especially if the kitchen and living area are joint) can be an embarrassing affair. Hence a curtain can work wonders here. It’s suggested that the curtains here are of darker hues, as the soot and the oil may ruin it hell of times, thus increasing the laundry and the hard work.
While the décor becomes a key part of home re-vamp, the lighting also plays a vital role as it is with the lights that one can experience the décor. Poor lighting may cause the best decors and accessories to look ugly and may wreck the entire linen upshot of the shadows and wallpapers in the house. While Amazon and E-bay have the latest collections of high quality chandeliers, one may also want to take a look at the size and the diameters of them. A small room may look too worked up if a huge chandelier is hung above, even if the chandelier is the most beautiful on the earth. Hence although one may want to go for the best, ensure that the things one buys compliment the other things around it. Yes, we are talking about the co-ordination of colors of the furniture and the walls, the ceiling, the lights. Everything has to be in sync with each other to produce that mesmerizing and optimistic effect which one would like a house to have. Vintage carpets and rugs also are becoming a style statement these days considering the fact that they bring in the Bohemian effect.
Although indoors are the major work, outdoors cannot be left behind as they make the first impression. For the houses which have patios and gardens in the outdoors one may want to ensure one has weather resistant chaise lounges, picnic tables, a few chairs (typically four or six) and a canopy that can make your weekends, cozy, bright and comfy, at the same time, easy and convenient.
Agreed that with the kind of ideas and trends flowing, one may want to opt for a lot of things at one go, one should also ensure that the personal touch should not be lost while the choices are made. After all, your entire house is going to be your personal space and should reflect your individuality more than anything else.
